Pre Pod Mullet Run on Fort Lauderdale Beach. Pilchard and Sardine whitebait. September marks the start of period known as Happy Bait, and those that participate or called Happy Baiters. The fall mullet migration triggers a phenomenon of sport fishing up and down both coasts of Florida. Rarely predictable outside of a general season guide, the mullet run brings out fishermen with their cast nets and sabiki rigs in hopes of landing select baits to work from the shoreline to catch trophy sport fish just as shark, snook, tarpon, and even jack crevalle and barracuda. There are many different way, styles, and techniques to throw a cast net, and all them have good properties. Its not so much how to throw a cast net as much as it when and where to throw a cast net.
